Trees rather than water.

Penetanguishene is the one resort of the eight where the setting is forest rather than shoreline. Ninety five acres of mature hardwood in Tiny Township, with sites tucked in among the trees rather than laid out along a lake.

That suits a particular sort of buyer. Shade through July and August, privacy between sites, and quiet. If what you actually want is somewhere cool and still to sit with a book, this beats a waterfront lot.

It is also the busiest of our resorts for children. Three playgrounds, go karts, wagon rides and treasure hunts, with planned activities through the season.

The Georgian Bay beaches are minutes away by car, so the water is still there when you want it. If you would rather own on the water itself, Georgian Bay is about an hour north with three private lakes.

Open 1 May to 31 October Like all our seasonal resorts, Penetanguishene closes over the winter. The site fee covers the season rather than the calendar year, and arriving mid season may qualify for a prorated rate.

Questions we get about Penetanguishene.

The things people ask before they drive up. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Is it on the water?

No, and that is the point of it. It is the one resort of the eight set in forest rather than on a shoreline, with sites among 95 acres of mature hardwood. The Georgian Bay beaches are minutes away by car, so you get the water without paying a waterfront site fee every year for it.

What is there for the children?

More than anywhere else we represent. Three large playgrounds, go karts, wagon rides, treasure hunts, an outdoor pool, basketball and volleyball, with planned activities running right through the season.

How much is the site fee?

From $4,605, which is the second lowest of the eight after Hay Bay. It covers the season, site maintenance and every amenity on the resort. Utilities are billed separately, and where your site sits in the forest moves the figure.

Is a wooded site better or worse than waterfront?

It depends what your days look like. Trees give you shade through July and August, more privacy from the neighbours, a quieter site and a lower fee. Waterfront gives you the view and a swim from your own lot. Families who are out most of the day tend to prefer the trees.

How far is it from Toronto and the beaches?

About 90 minutes from the GTA. The Georgian Bay beaches are minutes away, Midland is a short drive for shops and services, and Awenda Provincial Park and Sainte-Marie among the Hurons are both close.

Do pre-loved cottages come up here?

Regularly, along with RVs. They are not always listed anywhere, so tell us what you are looking for and what your budget is, and we will call you when something fits rather than leaving you to check the site.

What is nearby.

Tiny Township sits on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, with the beaches of Wasaga and Balm Beach and the town of Midland all close by.
